Though your website (and Adur's own website) state there are beach-accessible wheelchairs and a rollator here in Worthing,
I have spent the last 6 weeks in a dispute with both the Council and the Coastal Office on this issue.
Whilst the equipment certainly exists due to wonderful fundraising by the local community, it was withdrawn from public use last summer.
We were told then there was a problem with the equipment getting stuck in the shingle and that they planned to resolve this over the winter.
This year I have received a litany of excuses including the booking website not working, problems with storage, health and safety problems etc. They told me the equipment would available by the end of June/beginning July but that has now been pushed back to the end of July.
I'm not holding my breath and will believe it when I see disabled people accessing the beach as I've been told so many different things over the last year!
I just wanted to flag this as your website shows Worthing as having the facilities available but visitors to our town will be highly disappointed if they are hoping to make use of what will eventually be a fantastic service (coming from someone who hasn't been able to access a beach in 15 years)!
I am happy to write an update when the faculty is available in reality.
ANSWER:
Hi Nic thank you for letting us know about the beach wheelchair at Worthing Beach.
The shingle is a problem there so maybe they need accessible beach matting similar to Sandbanks beach near Bournemouth.
Do give us an update so we can let other know.
Many thanks. Julia
