Welcome to the November 2024 edition of Disability Grants News - a monthly round up of highlights on the Disability Grants website and resources for anyone with a disability, caring for or working with disabled adults or children.

Grant News

Individuals and Families
  • The Jon Shaw Foundation supports young people under 25 years with Epilepsy who live in the UK with safety equipment that cannot be provided by the NHS.

 

  • The Cindy Appleyard Foundation supports families with children in hospital for an extended period of time with grants up to £300 to cover cost of accommodation, travel and time off work.

 

  • Music for All have opened a new funding round for its "Learn to Play Award”. Applications will close on 13th January 2025.

 

  • Grants of up to £2,500 for early stage musicians and creatives from the Youth Music NextGen Fund. Must be aged 18 to 25 years and live in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. It’s open to d/Deaf, Disabled or Neurodivergent creatives up to 30 years old, as the impact of barriers they face in the industries impacts them further into their careers.

 

  • People with Parkinson's or other forms of progressive parkinsonism, and unpaid carers, can apply for a Parkinson's UK Grant up to £1,500. Closing date: 16th December 2024.

 

  • The Cosaraf Foundation offers hardship funds to individuals and families living in the UK. Referrals only from third party organisations.

 

  • There is still time to apply for a Churchill Fellowship to develop new solutions for today’s key challenges.  Fellows are funded to discover latest innovations and best practice anywhere in the world.  Closing date: Tuesday 12th November 2024.

 

Regional
  • Basil Houghton Trust offers small grants to support people with learning disabilities and their families living in Shropshire.


  • Young Carers in Scotland can claim £383.75 a year if they are aged 16,17 or 18, care for someone who gets certain disability benefits and spend an average of 16 hours caring a week.

 

Community
  • The Youth Music Trailblazer Fund offers grants of £2,000 to £30,000 to organisations in England to run projects for children and young people (25 or under) to make, learn and earn in music. Closing date: 22nd November 2024.

 

  • Funding from the Charles Hayward Foundation of up to £7,000 for small UK charities (under £350,000 income) that support older people in the UK.

 

  • The Angus Irvine Playing Fields Fund (AIPFF) offers funding to increase opportunities for kids and young people in inner-city and disadvantaged areas to play sport and enjoy its many benefits. It has previously funded disability sports. Closing date: Tuesday 31st December 2024.

 

  • Grants for physical activity providers of up to £3,000 from Parkinson's UK to give people with Parkinson's more opportunities to stay active. Final deadline for all grant application: Friday 15th November 2024.

 

  • The Branching Out Fund from the Tree Council offers funding for trees, hedgerows and orchards for schools and other community groups. Closing date 1st December 2024.

 


Resources

  • The Education team at barristers’ chambers Civitas Law has launched a Guide to Additional Learning Needs (ALN) law in Wales - offering legal guidance for parents, educators, local authorities, and legal professionals navigating what they describe as an “evolving legal landscape”.

 

  • Advice and inspiration from Thrive on creating a safe and manageable garden for individuals with Dementia.

 

  • The Family Fund runs a range of workshops for families raising disabled children including iPad workshops and how to check your benefits online.

 

  • “Caring for You” is a wellbeing toolkit for unpaid Carers offering practical activities and tips to deal with specific emotions which can arise from having a caring role, as well as ideas on how to maintain a good overall wellbeing.  Download from the Carers Trust website.

 

  • The Autistic Society has launched a diagnosis advice and support hub packed with evidence-based advice and guidance and practical resources, to help support people before, during, and after diagnosis

 


Snippets

  • RNIB Connect Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day, every day, on various platforms including Freeview Channel 730, online streaming, smart speakers.  You can also listen to RNIB Connect Radio live on RNIB's website and tune into recorded shows.

 

  • ME Connect is the support & Information service for people with ME/CFS/PVFS and Long Covid.  It has a new freephone number - 0800 538 5200

 

  • Tower Bridge has launched an Audio descriptive tour, to make a visit more informative for visually impaired visitors.

 

  • The One-Handed Musical Instrument Trust have set up a Music-Makers Club, which is designed to bring together individuals who use adapted musical instruments or enabling equipment.

 

 


Help raise money for Disability Grants with the purchase of our colouring books.

“Everyone’s Different” has positive colouring images of children with additional needs.  The images show children with physical, hearing and visual impairments.

For adults with Learning Difficulties, Alzheimer’s or Dementia we have Butterfly and Mandala colouring books.


Please don't forget that Disability Grants is a shared resource where everyone helps each other..... So, do participate and share your knowledge and experiences.
